Artistic Expressions for Race Amity
A meaningful and joyous day in which all forms of artistic expression are welcomed for the purpose of celebrating race amity (friendship and collaboration between people who look different from each other). We will endeavor to recognize that race is a social construct and that we are all One Humanity in one world, our Mother Earth. We will celebrate the beauty of diversity, as we are like different colored flowers in one garden.
There is a small interfaith local team of friends planning this event for the benefit of our community.
We are planning an open mic for poetry, music, storytelling, and discussion. We also want visual arts supplies to be provided on the tables including colored pencils, crayons, magazines to cut up, glue sticks, paper, poster boards, stickers, etc. The arts are a great way to explore this topic and come together in unity.
We also want to have some snacks and drinks. We want to ideally put a couple of tables outside as well as a bunch inside.
Pastor Christopher Clark of the Free Christian Center (of Kankakee) has volunteered to be a special guest speaker at the event. He will discuss race amity and use some humor to help foster connection and discussion. We also plan to provide some printed quotes about the topic. At around 3:30pm we will have our open discussion inside using the microphone so that everyone can be heard.

Key City Kirtan, The Majestic Room 203
Kirtan is a form of meditative devotional singing that comes to us from India. You don’t have to be Hindu or hold any religious convictions at all to sing Kirtan. It’s just a simple way to honor the life and light within each of us and to draw our lives closer to that light. It’s also fine if you aren’t very musical. Come and join us and raise the vibe in Downtown Kankakee!
